Prior Engagements: is a performance piece that examined romance and chance through a series of blind dates staged along a canal in Berlin. Over three nights, each blind date met at the same location, each evening featuring candlelight, charcuterie, bubbles and an arranged setting, spectators observed from a moving canal boat with a giant spot light shining on the scene in passing. An Italian opera singer performed “Heaven and Ocean” from La Gioconda in a rowboat, drawing from Henry Miller’s love letters to Anaïs Nin.
